Instructions

    • 1

Place the water in the bottom of the double boiler and get it boiling on the stove. Open the packages of chocolate melts and cookies. If your cookies are in a tray then remove the plastic wrapper right down to the tray. Open the bag of milk chocolate melts, so they are easy to pour into the double boiler when it is time. Take a few cookie sheets; cover them with the tin foil or parchment paper and set aside.

    • 2

When the water is boiling, add the top of the double boiler and pour in the milk chocolate melts. The chocolate melts will melt quickly, will change to a shiny color as they melt, and let them remain in the double boiler until they melt.

    • 3

When the chocolate melts, place a cookie into the double boiler and use the spoon to turn the cookies over so all sides are covered. Use a fork to lift the chocolate covered cookies out of the melted chocolate. Holding the fork so the handle is over the edge of the pan, and the cookie is over the pot, gently tap the handle of the fork against the pan, knocking off some of the excess chocolate.

    • 4

Gently lay the milk chocolate covered cookies on the prepared cookie sheets and allow them to cool completely and the chocolate will return to the previous state leaving your cookies in a chocolate shell. Go ahead and prepare all your cookies as you did in step 3, and this will not take long at all.

    • 5

Once the cookies are covered and sitting to cool completely, you will then melt the ½ a pound of a different color of chocolate in a clean double boiler top. When it is melted, remove that top part of the double boiler from the heat and using pot holders carry it to the where your cookies and resting on the cookie sheet. Stick the fork into the melted chocolate and drizzle some melted chocolate onto your cookies, the technique does not matter but you just need small amounts of the different color of chocolate onto the milk chocolate covered cookies.

Tips & Warnings

  • If the chocolate ever begins to harden back up while in the double boiler, simply reheat and it will return to the liquid form.

  • If you do not have a double boiler handy, then a regular sized saucepan with a similar sized stainless steel bowl will be about the same thing.

  • Any type of cookie is fine to use here, but I prefer shortbread because it is wonderful covered in the milk chocolate.
