How to Clean Muddy Running Shoes

Running is great exercise and doing it in a mountainous terrain can offer you many great advantages to your workout by allowing you to build strength as well as endurance. The one drawback however is that running on wooded paths or up hills tend to fill the soles of your running shoes with mud. This article will show you how to clean the mud from your running shoes.   • Running Shoes Caked With Mud
  • Hot Running Water
  • Toothpicks
  • Toothbrush
  • Butter Knife
  • Towel

Instructions

  1. Cleaning Mud From Running Shoes

    • 1

      Turn on the hot water and wait until it is nice and hot.

      Place one hand inside of your shoe so that your palm is facing the sole.

      Place the sole under the hot water at a 45 degree angle.

    • 4

      Slide butter knife, flat side side with the serrated edge facing you at a slight angle, down the sole of your shoe to remove large particles of mud.

      Use your tooth brush by beginning at the heel end of the shoe and begin brushing the sole with strong pressure and using a steady circular motion. Continue down the entire shoe and repeat until you are satisfied that you cannot get any further into the treads.

      Remove shoe from water and wipe down the sole with the towel.

      Use your toothpicks to remove mud from the deep sections of the treat.

    • 8

      Rinse under hot water and towel off. Examine treads for resilient mud and continue using the toothpicks and repeating this step until the soles of your shoes are as clean as you want them to be.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use only soft bristle cleaning tools.

  • Never use soap to wash your shoes as the detergent can cause a break down in the rubber.
