Instructions

  1. Add a Bit of Serenity to Your Backyard

    • 1

Pick an open area in your backyard to create a meditation area. You will want to enclose some sides of the meditation area to block winds and allow privacy. Plants such as lilacs and roses may be used. They are lush and will provide beautiful scents to the meditation area.

    • 2

Choose seating for the meditation area and decide where to place it. You may also want to store a bamboo mat to use for when you want to sit on the ground while meditating.

    • 3

Plant a row of lilac trees or roses to block winds and provide scent to the area. Dig a hole at least twice the size of the root ball for the plants, insert the plant, water the area well, and then stomp down the ground to prevent air pockets from forming around the roots.

    • 4

Plant some brightly colored flowers on one side of the meditation area. You may want to use lilies, poppies, or bee balm. Looking at the brightly colored flowers will remind you of the joy in the world.

    • 5

Plant soothing colored flowers on the other side of the meditation area. Create a ying and yang feel with very different types of flowers on either side of the meditation area. You may want to use pale colors in tulips, daisies, or daffodils.

Tips & Warnings

  • Visit gardens before you start your meditation area. See which flowers and bushes you like and incorporate them into your plans.

  • Do a sketch of the layout of the meditation area and the seating before you start planting the bushes and flowers.

  • Be sure to place the meditation area in a quiet spot in the yard away from traffic noise or loud neighbors.

  • Use the area for meditation only. Make the area off limits to anything other than meditation to ensure the spot reminds you of serenity.
