Developed in Jamaica in the 1960s, reggae music draws its unique sound from the nation's ska and rocksteady genres. Reggae is often linked to the Rastafarian movement, hence its lyrics' common reference to faith, love, injustice and related social issues. Made perhaps most famous by The Wailers, including Bob Marley, the genre has grown to include countless artists, famous and amateur, making for great playlist opportunities.

How to Make a Reggae Playlist

  1. Step 1

Search for reggae music artists, sound samples, concert videos and radio stations online. ITunes and other similar music download programs often allow users to search libraries by genre and sample short bits of songs.

  2. Step 2

Check local listings for any reggae clubs or concerts, which provide excellent opportunities for discovering new artists and networking with other fans. Also, performers and their promoters often give out CDs or sell them at a discounted price.

  3. Step 3

Upload or download your favorite reggae music into one folder on your computer. Keep it on hand for future additions and edits.

  4. Step 4

Organize the songs in any fashion you please (i.e., alphabetical by song title or artist, random shuffle, by length, slowest to most upbeat) and save the playlist.

  5. Step 5

Burn the playlist to a CD and/or copy it to a portable MP3 player for on-the-go reggae beats.
