Instructions

    • 1

Measure the dimensions of the area of tile you need to grout.

    • 2

Calculate the square footage of the area of tile you need to grout (length x width). If the area contains tiles of various sizes, estimate the square footage of each size of tile.

    • 3

Measure the dimensions of an individual tile in the area you need to grout. You will need to know the length, width, and depth of the tile. If the area contains tiles of various sizes, measure one tile of each size.

    • 4

Measure the space between the tiles. The space is typically the same for all tiles in the area to be grouted.

    • 5

Note the square footage of the area of tile you need to grout, the dimensions of the individual tiles in the area, and the size of the space between the tiles.

    • 6

Determine the amount of grout needed for your area of tile by either talking to an expert at your local home improvement store, reading specifications and instructions on a bag of grout, or using an online grout estimate tool.

    • 7

Visit your local home improvement store to determine the price of a bag of grout. Using the amount of grout estimated in step 6, determine how many bags of grout your project requires and calculate the cost.

Tips & Warnings

  • Purchase about ten percent more grout than required to prevent running out of grout in the middle of your project.

  • When calculating the cost of grout, also consider the cost of any tools you might need to purchase, such as a float.
