To be a Christian means to live your life according to the principles set forth in the Bible. Christians accept the Bible as the inspired word of God believing that the words are flawless. A teenager should study the Bible to understand and follow God’s will for the rules of dating. Some recurrent themes found in Old and New Testament verses are, “Honor your father and your mother,” “Do not lie,” and “Love your neighbor as yourself.” Jesus suggests that your neighbor is any other human being in the parable of the “Good Samaritan” found in Luke 10:29-36. Therefore, treat any person you date as good as or better than you treat yourself. How do you apply these principles to follow the dating rules for a Christian teenager?

Things You'll Need:

  • Bible
  • Friends
  • Modest clothes
  1. Step 1

Date teenagers who are also Christians. The Bible says, "Do not be yoked with unbelievers." in 2 Corinthians 6:14. That means you don't want to marry a person who isn't the same faith as yourself. Dating a person can lead to falling in love. A person who doesn't share your faith may lead you to make bad choices that you will later regret.

  2. Step 2

Dress modestly for a Christian date. Wearing revealing clothing can lead to impure thoughts and actions even when that isn't your intent.

  3. Step 3
    Come home on time
    Come home on time

Honor your father and mother by following their dating rules and that includes curfews. Deuteronomy 5:16 makes it clear that everyone, no matter how young or old you are, must honor their father and mother. This verse is repeated numerous times in the Bible indicating how important it is. Another verse, Ephesians 6:1 says you should "obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right."

  4. Step 4
    Date in public places

Plan dates in public places and have an agenda for what you will be doing there. If you are surrounded by spectators you are less likely to do something you may later regret. If you are busy with planned activities your mind is less likely to wander to impure thoughts or activities.

  5. Step 5
    Attend Christian concerts

Look for activities that remind you of your faith and commitment to God. Some good activities include attending Christian concerts, movies, and planned social activities with other Christian teenagers.
