How to Make a Mai Tai

Reportedly invented by Trader Vic restaurant founder Victor "Trader Vic" Bergeron in 1944, the Mai Tai is the quintessential tropical drink. Serves 1.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1½ oz. light rum
  • 1 oz. dark rum
  • ¾ oz. triple sec
  • ½ oz. amaretto
  • 1 oz. orange juice
  • 1 oz. pineapple juice
  • ¼ oz. lime juice
  • splash of club soda
  • splash of grenadine
  • cracked ice
  • Groceries
  • Liquor
  • Old-fashioned Glass
  • Cocktail Strainer
  • Cocktail Shaker
  1. Step 1

    Put cracked or shaved ice into a cocktail shaker.

  2. Step 2
     

    Add rum, Triple Sec, amaretto and juices.

  3. Step 3

    Shake 4 times.

  4. Step 4
     

    Strain into an old-fashioned glass.

  5. Step 5
     

    Top with a splash of soda and a dash of grenadine.

Tips & Warnings
  • Add another dash of grenadine for more color.
  • Mixed drinks contain alcohol, so use moderation.
  • Never drink and drive.
