How to Keep Readers Coming Back for More

If you are writing a blog, a website or a series of novels, you will want to keep your readers interested in coming back for your updated content and new work. In order to do this, you must have the determination and drive to not only be a writer, but also an advertiser to some extent. With the right message and some great content, you will be able to keep your readers coming back for more.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • A Website
  • A Little Spare Time

Step1
Set yourself up on the internet with a website if you don't already have one. If you write novels or print articles for example, you will want to have a presence online that will give your interested readers something else to check out while they are waiting for new content from you.
Step2
Make sure to have continuity with your content. If you are a blogger that writes in a very distinct voice, you will want to keep this up. You can veer away from this on occasion, but if it’s the distinction that brings in your readers, you will want to stick with it as much as possible.
Step3
Become your own fan. Find out why your readers are so interested in what you write and take those elements to a discussion board or put it into a reader’s poll. This way, you will be able to see through their eyes what they expect from you in the future.
Step4
Begin to advertise for yourself. This can be as subtle or as obvious as you want. If you know that the readers are just dying to read your next work, give them a little bit of a teaser early on for being such loyal readers. They will appreciate it and you may even build a larger readership through it.
Step5
Don’t disappoint your readers. Not everyone will be happy with everything that you do, but don’t go out of your way to trick or offend your readers. If you want to keep your readers coming back for more, you will want to establish a good relationship with them and keep it in good standing.

Tips & Warnings

  • Remember to not offend your readers -- they will tell others not to read your work.
  • Get the opinions from current readers in order to get an idea of what they expect from you.
