Salsa is a fun and energetic dance, one that can be enjoyed by both the male and the female dancer. A key element to learning all salsa steps easily is to first take small steps. It is harder to correct mistakes made with rhythm and weight when the steps are too large. Here's how to do a man's underarm turn to the right.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Keep in mind the a man's turn is just like the woman’s underarm turn to right, except for the fact that because he is the leader, he turns himself and doesn’t really get turned by the woman.

  2. Step 2

Stepping forward is the woman’s basic step, but as she steps slow on the left foot, she raises her left arm high to allow her partner to turn. She will also need to step back a bit further on that last step back to allow him to turn himself.

  3. Step 3

Turning on her next quick-quick-slow (when the man is much taller than the woman, he will need to bend his knees a bit). He makes a full 360-degree turn and comes out of it before the next sequence of steps.

  4. Step 4

Finishing the turn, he goes into another quick-quick-slow sequence and then may decide to prepare her for another turn.

  5. Step 5

Perform 3 turns. It is not uncommon for there to be 3 underarm turns. The man spins the woman, then the man does an underarm turn to right, and then he leads the lady into another turn.

Tips & Warnings
  • The man's footwork is the same as the woman’s when he turns, the only difference is that she doesn’t lead him into the turn. Each turn is also completed in the 3 steps or to 4 beats of the music.
