Installing a sink drain in a marble sink is no different than installing one in any other sink with one exception. Use care when tightening the top flange into place to prevent scratching of the glossy surface inside the bowl. Some drain kits will come with plastic or PVC washers instead of rubber and cardboard.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Drain kit
  • Plumber’s putty
  • Water pump pliers

    Installation

  1. Step 1

Remove the drain kit from the package and lay the parts out on the floor. Locate each part and separate them so that they are easily recognizable.

  2. Step 2

Locate the top flange. Roll some of the plumber’s putty into a small rope long enough to reach around the circumference of the flange ring and press into place.

  3. Step 3

Insert the top flange into the sink. Locate the washer and nut that screws onto the top flange from under the sink and tighten the nut with your hand.

  4. Step 4

Insert the pop-up stopper into the drain and locate the parts that operate the pop-up; the pivot seat and gasket, the horizontal rod and the nut that holds it all in place.

  5. Step 5

Line up the rod with the pop-up stopper after threading it through the pivot seat and gasket. Tighten in place with the nut provided. Snug all parts in place with water pump pliers and clean excess putty off the top flange. Connect drain pipes accordingly.

Tips & Warnings
  • Some will use 100% clear silicone in the place of plumber’s putty as a deterrent to stains that cab be caused by the putty around the drain area.
  • Plumbers putty is recommended over the rubber washer because of durability. This is only an option; the rubber gasket can be used if preferred.
  • Use care when applying pressure with water pump pliers as they can damage plastic threads.
