The hook punch is used often in competitions and in combat training. It has a lot of strength behind it. You do not have to be tall or weigh a lot to use this move effectively. Most of the power behind this punch comes from your hips. Be sure to practice often to perfect your posture.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Stand up straight, and align your body.

  2. Step 2

Start in a fighter's stance with both hands raised to protect your face. Both hands should be curled into a fist.

  3. Step 3

Quickly punch outward using your right or left hand.

  4. Step 4

Protect the rest of your body from attack by keeping your shoulder locked against your body. Stay in this position as you go into the punch.

  5. Step 5

    Return to the fighter's stance.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use the force from your hips rather than your arms. Doing so adds power to the punch.
  • Don't do this without the supervision of a trained instructor.
