How to Do an Over the Back Throw With Nunchucks

Performing a back throw using a pair of nunchucks requires you to have complete control over your equipment. Practice first using an eskrima until you can safely catch it behind your back. Once you've perfected this move, you should be able to easily complete a back throw with your nunchucks.

Things You'll Need:

  • Nunchucks
  • Eskrima (optional)
  • Full length mirror (optional)

    How to Do an Over the Back Throw with Nunchucks

  1. Step 1

    Hold the nunchucks straight using both hands.

  2. Step 2

    Hold one end in your right hand and let the other fall to the side.

  3. Step 3

    Throw the nunchucks behind your back and catch it with your left hand. It should spin at least once before landing in your left hand. As you improve your skill, try to increase the number of spins.

  4. Step 4

    Spinning the nunchucks before throwing it behind your back is a common exercise.

  5. Step 5

    Hold end of the nunchucks between the first two fingers of your right hand.

  6. Step 6

    Rotate the nunchucks through your fingers and throw the nunchucks behind your back to catch them.

Tips & Warnings
  • Practice your throwing technique using an eskrima.
  • As you become more comfortable throwing the eskrima, increase your speed and number of spins by throwing the eskrima higher each time.
  • Watch yourself in the mirror to ensure you're throwing the nunchucks correctly.
