How to Mix a Tijuana Sling

It's called a Tijuana Sling, but this fruity, potent drink's origin isn't entirely clear. The Tijuana Sling is a perfect party drink for you or a hired bartender to mix or even for the guests to mix themselves.Try posting the recipe above a table with the ingredients (found in Things You'll Need) and let guests put it together themselves. That way they can decide on the potency themselves and they can add black currants or blueberries, or none at all.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 1/4 oz tequila
  • 3/4 oz creme de cassis
  • 3/4 oz fresh lime juice
  • 2 dashes peychard bitters
  • fresh black currants or blueberries
  • carbonated water or ginger ale
  • shaker
  • strainer

    How to Mix a Tijuana Sling

  1. Step 1

    Fill a shaker with cracked ice.

  2. Step 2

    Pour tequila into a shaker.

  3. Step 3

    Add crème de cassis.

  4. Step 4

    Add lime juice.

  5. Step 5

    Add peychard bitters.

  6. Step 6

    Strain over ice into a chilled 12 ounce Collins glass.

  7. Step 7

    Top with carbonated water.

  8. Step 8

    Add blackberries or blueberries (optional).

  9. Step 9

    Garnish with a lime wheel.

Tips & Warnings
  • Internationally, there are at least a couple versions of the Tijuana Sling which are similar, with slight variations.
  • In Bratislava, it’s olmeca silver, creme de cassis, lime juice soda.
  • In Hong Kong, the Tijuana Sling, combines tequila, creme de cassis, Lime Juice, Honey, Ginger Ale).
