A mixed fraction is written in the form of a whole number plus a fraction: 8 2/3. 8 is the whole number. 2 is the numerator. 3 is the denominator. It is pronounced as: eight and two third.

    How to Multiply Mixed Fractions

  1. Step 1

    Change both mixed fractions into improper fractions.

  2. Step 2

    Multiply the whole number by the denominator. Add the numerator to the product of the whole number and the denominator.Make the sum the new numerator in your improper fraction. Keep the denominator the same as in the original mixed fraction.

  3. Step 3

    Multiply the numerator by the numerator in the improper fractions: numerator x numerator.

  4. Step 4

    Multiply the denominator by the denominator in the improper fractions: denominator x denominator.
