  • A love of animals
  • Admission tickets
  • Picnic lunch (optional)
  1. Step 1

Kangaroo lovers, unite! Enhance your visit to the zoo by spending time at the Australian Outback exhibit. It is one of the most 'interactive' habitats featured. As opposed to older exhibits, which forced you to view the animals through glass partitions or over a moat, this one is much more interesting.Wallabies and red kangaroos are allowed to roam free in this habitat. It was created to mimic the real Australian Outback, and is staffed with specially trained volunteers who make the entire experience more enjoyable. There is even an activity plaza with an interactive kangaroo jump for the kids.

  2. Step 2

Ride the railroad. The Tauber Family Railroad has been part of the Detroit zoo since 1931. It's a great way to experience the entire park without ever leaving the comfort of your coach.

  3. Step 3

If you love polar bears and seals, spend some time at the 'Arctic Ring of Life' exhibit. It is actually a $14.9 million habitat that covers more than four acres. There are both indoor and outdoor exhibits to enjoy.

  4. Step 4

No trip to the Detroit Zoo is complete without a visit to the National Amphibian Conservation Center, or Amphibville. It's a two-acre village dedicated to the species. It features dozens of fascinating exhibits and amphibians -- everything from exotic tree frogs to lizards to tortoises to stingrays.

  5. Step 5

Other must-see attractions include the Butterfly Garden, the Giraffe House, the Zebra Habitat, the Penguinarium, the Snow Monkey Exhibit, the Tigers, the Great Apes and the Farm Animal Exhibit.
