Christian meditation is encouraged in the Bible. There are several methods of meditation, but what is important is that you are quieting your mind and spending time with God. Through meditation, you can better learn scriptures and what they mean to you in your life. It’s also a way to feel God’s presence and direction. Many people meditate daily, and they reap the rewards from a closer relationship with God and the peaceful time meditation commands from an otherwise hectic schedule. One popular meditation method is Lectio Divina, which is comprised of four steps.

    How to Do Christian Meditation

  1. Step 1

Read a particular passage of interest to you from the Bible. Deliberately read the scripture slowly and attentively.

  2. Step 2

Mediate on the scripture. This is the time to memorize the text and think about how it relates to you personally. Let the scripture resonate in your thoughts. Think about how God’s word, specifically the scripture you chose, applies to you and your life.

  3. Step 3

Prayerfully ask God to open your eyes to the scripture you are mediating on.

  4. Step 4

Silently rest in God’s presence. Quiet your mind so that you’re thinking of nothing but God’s glorious presence.

  5. Step 5

If your mind starts to wander, simply bring it back to the scripture and meditation. Meditation can de difficult at first. It takes practice to learn to be still and meditate on God’s word.
