A Widow's Kiss is a very bitter, moody drink which is excellent in the fall or deep of winter. It may be an acquired taste, even for experienced cocktail explorers, but it's an experience not to be missed. Read on to learn how to mix a Widow's Kiss.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 1/2 oz. apple brandy
  • 3/4 oz. yellow Chartreuse
  • 3/4 oz. Benedictine
  • Two to three dashes Angostura bitters
  • Cherry (optional)
  1. Step 1

Pour the ingredients into a mixing glass.

  2. Step 2

Fill the mixing glass with ice.

  3. Step 3

Stir for at least 30 seconds.

  4. Step 4

Strain the drink into a cocktail glass.

  5. Step 5

Garnish with a cherry if you like. The tiny bit of sweetness goes well with the other relatively bitter flavors.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can use green chartreuse if you want, but it has a stronger flavor that may overwhelm the apple brandy.
  • The best apple brandy is a French Calvados.
