Decorate a Barometer

A fun art project to do with kids is decorating homemade barometers. A barometer can be made with a glass jar, a balloon, some string, and a straw. But you can make it more fun, interesting, and creative by decorating the jar. Read on to find out how to decorate a barometer.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Paper
  • Paint
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Colorful balloon
  • Permanent markers
  • Paint brush
  1. Step 1

Decide on a theme for your barometer. Do you love sports? You could decorate the barometer with sports equipment. Barometers are kept outside, so maybe you want to paint a nature scene on it. What about an interesting, colorful design? Whatever you choose will make a unique barometer.

  2. Step 2

Cut out shapes or designs from construction paper. You can also use wrapping or tissue paper. You can also draw on printer paper and cut out your drawings.

  3. Step 3

Glue your shapes onto the jar. You can use regular white glue like children use at school, or you can use craft glue.

  4. Step 4

Fill in blank spaces with paint, or you may want to paint your jar different colors before you glue any paper on. You can cover the entire jar with decorations. It doesn't matter how much of it is covered. The decorations will not affect the way the homemade barometer works.

  5. Step 5

Use permanent markers to write your name or a saying on your jar. You can also use the markers to draw a design. Now you have decorated a barometer and made a unique weather measuring instrument.

Tips & Warnings
  • Another creative way to decorate a barometer is by using a colorful balloon to stretch across the top of the jar. You can even choose a balloon that matches the theme of your barometer.
