How to Become a Paramedic in Australia

Becoming a paramedic in Australia is not for everyone. Not only does it involve school and time, but it also involves blood and being witness to some graphic aftermath of accidents. Needless to say, it is not for everyone, but if you have decided this is the career path for you be prepared for a fulfilling job as a paramedic in Australia.

Instructions

1. Complete the St. John Ambulance Bachelor of Science (Paramedical Science) through Edith Cowan University (Joondalup campus). However, before you even complete this degree, you must be accepted by the school by completing Year 12 and must also hold a current Senior First Aid Certificate and driver's license.

2. Complete 12 weeks of full-time training before going out on the road with trained professional paramedics. During your first and second years, you will also undertake case studies and assignments, before returning to the training school for advanced studies in your third year. After you are done with your third year, you must also complete a one year internship to qualify to become an ambulance paramedic.

3. Complete a nationally accredited 10 day Industrial Paramedic course if you wish to be an industrial paramedic. This can be done by taking the 6 day emergency response course, sponsored by St. John Ambulance school with a 4 day Industrial Paramedic course. The school will also help you with a placement for a job.
