How to Create a New Fun Gathering

Social events seem to come all at once or not at all. From November until the beginning of January, there seems to be no end to visits with family, big dinners and various parties and celebrations. During the summer months, there is usually a steady stream of weddings and open houses as well as backyard barbecues and patriotic parties to quickly fill the calendar. But what about the other times of year when time just seems to drag on with nothing in particular to look forward to? Rather than drag your feet through the long and uneventful times, get motivated and create a fun new gathering!

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy
Step1
Designate the date on which you would like to celebrate the fun new gathering you will create. Most people find the stretch of time between the new year and the onset of spring to be the most unbearable in terms of a lack of functions to attend or celebrations to enjoy. This is also a time when cabin fever has set in and people are longing for the sunshine and fresh air that will come with the spring. With that in mind, target a point between the months of January and late March.
Step2
Decide what sort of event you will host. Sure, you can host a gathering just for the sake of getting together with friends, but it would be much more fun to start an annual tradition for you and your friends and family to enjoy year after year. Given the time of year, planning an outdoor winter sports gathering could be a good idea as long as your climate is such that you and your guests could enjoy things like skiing or ice skating. Even if you live in a warmer climate, an outdoor event would surely lift the spirits of everyone who attends. Whatever the case, choose something that you and your guests will find appealing.
Step3
Create a catchy title for your event. People will love knowing that they are coming to "Bob's Brisk Weather Beef Brisket Backyard Barbecue." Using a fun title for your new gathering creates a buzz of anticipation in your guests.
Step4
Make invitations. Let your creativity come alive as you craft the invitations you will use to let all your guests know what is happening. Just like creating a clever title for the party, creating fun invitations will add excitement to your gathering.
Step5
Gather decorations for your function to create a festive atmosphere when the big day arrives. If it is your hope that this new gathering will become an annual tradition, consider spending a little more on the decor than you might otherwise spend. You will likely use the same decorations year after year and you want them to be of a quality that lasts.
Step6
Supply the food and drink and any other necessities unique to the theme you have chosen.
Step7
Welcome your guests and enjoy the fun new gathering you have created!

Tips & Warnings

  • Steamy mugs full of warm hot chocolate go hand and hand with outdoor gatherings. Top them with a dollop of whipped cream and some chocolate shavings for an extra special touch.
  • Don't forget to put together a party gift for your guests. Edible gifts are perfect for this purpose. Bake up a batch of extra large chocolate chip cookies. Individually wrap the cookies in cellophane or plastic wrap and attach a tag that thanks guests for coming.
  • Take time after the party to determine what you will do the same or differently next year. Make a note of your thoughts in a journal you can access when you plan the party for next year.
