1
Make sure the scarf is long enough to tie. Scarves come in all lengths and widths, but ideally, a scarf should be at least 60 inches long in length. (Adjust according to the height of each individual man.) The width of the scarf should be at least five inches.
-
2
Fold the scarf in half along its width. Drape the scarf around the neck with the closed end of the scarf half the length of the body in front of the torso. This method of tying a scarf is much more secure than merely circling the scarf around the neck. It works well with an active lifestyle.

3
Pull the open ends of the scarf through the closed end. Once the ends are through, tighten the scarf around the neck. The scarf should now be secure.
-
4
Adjust the scarf in the mirror and move it into the most comfortable position.
-
5
Try on whatever outer wear that will be worn. For rainy, wet weather, the scarf needs to be completely covered in order to remain dry and functional. Make sure that the style and pattern of your wardrobe complements the scarf and vice versa.

Tips & Warnings
Popular styles of men's scarves are solid colors such as black, brown and tan, as well as plaid patterns with neutral earth-tones. When wearing a suit, opt for a more formal fabric, such as cashmere.
Try to avoid pairing a solid color scarf to a similar colored solid colored shirt. Unless the colors match exactly, it can look sloppy or careless to wear similar but not exact colors on top of each other. Instead, opt for a plaid scarf that has similar colors to the shirt.
