How to Crochet a Wash Cloth
Crocheting a wash cloth is fairly simply as long as you remember to catch every stitch as you go along. This will keep the sides of the washcloth even all the way through the project.

Figure out how large your washcloth needs to be, and start by chaining a certain number of stitches to accomplish your goal. 50 chain stitches is probably adequate for the average-sized wash cloth, depending on the looseness of your stitches and the size of your hook.

Work the next row in single stitch to the end of the chain making sure to capture all the stitches, then chain 3 more stitches and reverse to create a third row. This way you will be sure to keep the edges of the wash cloth even. Otherwise, the edges are likely to wander inward as you go along, a trend that will require you to rip out entire rows of stitches in order to fix it.

Change colors by cutting off the first color yarn and knotting it to the second. Make sure you hide the cut ends of the yarn by tucking it beneath the loops of the stitches that you are making. This makes the finished product look more professional and also helps to keep it from snagging on everything in sight.

Work row after row using only 1 stitch until your wash cloth is in the shape of a square. Once you have reached this point, you will need to crochet an edging for your cloth to create a finished piece. A much tighter stitch is used to accomplish this, and it can be done with a similar or contrasting color.

Crochet 2 rows of tight single crochet stitches all the way around the wash cloth. Make sure that you catch every stitch right up to the very edge of the original rows. Variations of this can be done as well, including stitching only 1 row rather than 2.
