How to Lay Carpet on A Hard Surface
-
1
Measure the length and width of the area to be carpeted. Add 3 to 4 inches onto these measurements as a safety zone. It is much better to have a higher estimate than an insufficient one. Use these figures to have the carpet cut.
-
2
Examine the surface for bumps or inconsistency in smoothness. If a bump is spotted, use the sander to smooth it out. A smooth surface is vitally important to any kind of flooring. So, take a broom and sweep away any excess debris.

3
Use glue trowel to spread the glue in a fan-like pattern. Use an even application over the complete surface. As a rule of thumb, the glue should form a thin sheet of semicircles over the entire area to be carpeted. Leave a walking path to carry the carpet into the room.
-
4
Carry the carpet roll into the room and roll it out so every edge has 3 to 4 inches of extra length. Apply glue to the space used as a walkway before rolling carpet over that spot. Take the knee kicker and start stretching the carpet out towards each wall.
-
5
Cut a slit in the carpet from the top edge down to about 3 inches above the corner of the room. Using a straight edge, start trimming the carpet on each side of the room. Use one long straight cut so the edges of the carpet can curl up along the bottom of each wall. After all edges are trimmed, use the flat carpet tucker to push the edges under the baseboard.
