Want to feel like a character in a Preston Sturges movie? Think Lady Eve or The Palm Beach Story and the cocktail that seems to ideally fit that era is the Monte Carlo. Combining such classic spirits as dry gin and Creme de Menthe -- with champagne, nonetheless -- this is an elegant, but unpretentious beverage. As is the case with many cocktails, there are other recipes bearing the name Monte Carlo and we've added a couple of the concoctions to the Tips section of this piece.Here's how to make the traditional Monte Carlo.

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 oz Dry Gin
  • 1/2 oz Creme de Menthe White
  • 1/2 oz Lemon Juice
  • champagne
  • cocktail shaker
  • cracked ice

    How to Mix a Monte Carlo

  1. Step 1

    Fill cocktail shaker with ice.

  2. Step 2

    Add gin, Crème de Menthe, lemon juice.

  3. Step 3

    Shake with ice in a cocktail shaker.

  4. Step 4

    Strain into a cocktail glass.

  5. Step 5

    Fill with Champagne.
