Do the Warrior Lunge with Yoga Blocks

The Virabhadrasanas, or warrior poses, are cornerstones of a Vinyasa yoga practice. These powerful standing poses strengthen and stretch the thighs, calves, back, shoulders and arms. As a beginner it is often helpful to practice modified version of poses using props. Follow these easy steps to perfect the warrior lunge with blocks.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Yoga mat
  • Comfortable clothes
  • Two blocks
  1. Step 1

Start on your hands and knees with your hands shoulder-width distance apart.

  2. Step 2

Bring your right foot between your hands. Your right knee should be positioned over your ankle.

  3. Step 3

Flex your left foot and straighten your left leg.

  4. Step 4

Place blocks underneath each hand. This will prevent you from curving your spine.

  5. Step 5

Lift your chest and lift your gaze slightly.

  6. Step 6

Breath deeply through the nose, enjoying the stretch.

  7. Step 7

Return to a hands and knees position and repeat on your left side.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure your knee is in line with your ankle. Keeping the knee in line with the ankle protects it.
