How to Grow a Wild Flower Garden

Wild flower gardens do not have to be well planned or mapped out, and many times they will crop up on their own. Growing a wild flower garden is a relatively easy endeavor that will add years of beauty and enjoyment to any yard. Read on to learn how to grow a wild flower garden.

Things You'll Need

• Wild flower seeds
• Patch of ground
• Garden cultivator
• Starter soil
• Garden hose
• Gardening gloves

Instructions

1. 

   Gather all of the tools for planting a wild flower garden.

2. 

   Choose the area for a wild flower garden. This does not have to be a pristine piece of land, most wild flowers grow like weeds. A good choice is a place where you have trouble growing grass.

3. Use a garden rake and pruners to clear the area of any unwanted brush. The ground does not have to be cleared completely, any grass growing can stay.

4. 

   Spread some garden starter soil over the area with the rake. Cultivate the wild flower garden area if the ground is extremely hard.

5. 

   Spread the wild flower seeds as you would grass seed. A spreader can be used if the garden is extremely large. Most wild flower seeds come in a shake can for easy spreading.

6. 

   Lay another thin layer of garden starter soil on top of the wild flower seeds. Spread the top soil by hand so as not to disturb the seeds laying underneath.

7. 

   Water the new wild flower garden well for the first several days. Use a garden hose with a mist or light spray attachment so as not to disturb the seeds.

• Wild flowers come in all shapes and sizes and are usually planted by bulk seeding. Care should be taken in placement of the original garden as many wild flowers will spread seeds in the wind. Don't plant too close to any other garden.
