- Medium
-
Step 1
Prepare your design. You can lightly trace an outline of what you are going to paint on to the wood. This will provide you with reference points and guidelines while painting your project.
-
Step 2
Choose which colors you are going to use and place dabs of each on to your pallet for easy access.
-
Step 3
Mix your colors. If you are using colors that you have to create, start small and create a small portion of the desired color. Next, create a larger amount of that color by mixing ratios equal to what was used in the small portion. Be sure to mix up a bit extra so that you do not run out.
-
Step 4
Add your medium. This step is optional. If you desire a textured, glossy, or sparkly appearance you can mix a medium into your paint to achieve this effect. Please note, however, that this will stiffen your paint and make it thicker. So if you are using a custom color, you may need to create extra to prevent running out.
-
Step 5
Paint the dark colors directly on to the wood in the way you desire them to look. Allow the paint to dry thoroughly.
-
Step 6
Add another coat of paint, if your art is not dark enough.
