Tilapia is a mild flavored white fish that tastes similar to orange roughy, but is less expensive. Try it served Italian-style with chopped plum tomatoes, basil, oregano and Parmesan cheese, for a one-dish dinner.

Things You'll Need:

  • nonstick cooking spray
  • 6-8 tilapia fillets, thawed in refrigerator overnight if frozen
  • 1 can diced Italian-style tomatoes, undrained
  • 3 Tbsp butter or margarine
  • 1/2 teaspoon each: basil, oregano
  • 1 teaspoon each: minced garlic, dried parsley
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

    How to Make Italian Style Tilapia

  1. Step 1

    Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Spray an 8-inch round or rectangular baking dish with cooking spray.

  2. Step 2

    Rinse tilapia filets and lay in dish. Pour tomatoes over fish.In small bowl, mix together spices and sprinkle over fish.

  3. Step 3

    Cut butter or margarine into small pieces and scatter over top of fish.

  4. Step 4

    Sprinkle Parmesan cheese on top.

  5. Step 5

    Bake uncovered in preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until lightly browned and bubbly. Fish is done when it flakes easily with fork.

Tips & Warnings
  • Serve with additional Parmesan cheese on the side.
  • You can also make this recipe with sole.
  • Don't overcook fish or it will become tough. Check after 20-25 minutes for doneness.
