    Making Spicy Bean Hot Pot

  1. Step 1

Place the pot on the stove and preheat to high.

  2. Step 2

Add the oil until hot then add the garlic and onion. Stir them until the onions are translucent.

  3. Step 3

Stir in the dry spices (cumin, chili powder and cayenne) and saute for another 1-2 minutes.

  4. Step 4

Add the tomatoes, tomato paste, and hot pepper sauce. Stir well and bring to a simmer. This will take about 5 minutes.

  5. Step 5

Add the beans and fold in well. If too dry add a little bit of water.

  6. Step 6

Cook until the beans are thoroughly heated, about 15 minutes, stirring periodically.

  7. Step 7

Taste and season with salt, pepper or additional spices as needed.

  8. Step 8

Scoop into a warm bowl and top with cheddar cheese and enjoy.

Tips & Warnings
  • Adjust heat as you like by adding more Tabasco sauce.
  • Cheddar Cheese helps bring down the heat of the spices as does Sour Cream.
  • Serve with a Baked Potato or Over Rice.
  • Less spice is better to start as you can always add more.
  • As always, when cooking, use the utmost care to not burn yourself.
  • When cooking with oil always be careful to not "throw" items into it, instead place in the oil with a slotted spoon or spatula.
