A beautiful broken chair, especially one that has been passed down through generations, can become a heartache. As the owner of such a chair, you'll do anything to prevent it from becoming junk. Before you drag your chair to the curbside with your head hung in sorrow, there are a few things you can do to rescue your chair and keep it from further damage.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Wood glue
  • Angle brace
  • Drill
  • Screws
  • Dowel
  • Drill
  • Drill bit
  • Telephone
  • Chair manufacturer or supplier contact information
  1. Step 1

Fix wobbly chair legs and spindles by forcing wood glue into the joints of chair legs and spindles. Squeeze the glue gently, apply pressure to the glued piece for several moments. You may wish to use use a clamp to hold the piece in place.

  2. Step 2

Use an angle brace to fasten rungs and legs and prevent them from coming loose. Angle braces are available at most hardware stores and can be applied simply, with a drill and a few screws.

  3. Step 3

Reinforce a chair arm or leg that has come off or is about to come loose. Use a dowel to peg the pieces back together. A dowel, or a wooden peg, can be drilled into wood using a drill bit of the same size. For instance, if you’ve opted to use a 3/8-inch dowel, you will need a 3/8-inch drill bit.

  4. Step 4

Call the manufacturer or supplier of your chair if your chair parts are irreparable. You may be able to order a replacement part, such as a new leg or spindle.
