Things You'll Need:
- Bifold doors
- Doorknobs
- Trim screws
- Track hardware: track, hinges, pins, pivot plates
- Drill
- Hacksaw
- Plumb bob
-
Step 1
Most bifold doors come with packaging that includes the hardware necessary for installation. In case your doors do not, make sure you get the hardware.
-
Step 2
Mark your doors with pencil or tape to show which side is which. Nothing is more frustrating than have to reinstall a door that has been put in backwards.
-
Step 3
Align your hinges on the back edges of the doors, and, using your drill, screw in the screws. The standard is roughly 7" from the top of the door jamb and 7" from the floor.
-
Step 4
Next, install your track hardware. Attach your pivot plates, and, using the drill again, screw them into place. Typically, your doors will come with instructions for the track hardware. Try to follow those specifications. If necessary, you can use the hacksaw to trim down the track hardware to fit the closet opening. Do not screw the floor brackets into the floor yet. You will need to make sure the doors are square before you secure them.
-
Step 5
Position your floor bracket by using the plumb bob. This will help you keep everything properly aligned.
-
Step 6
At this point, you are ready to hang your doors. Slide the pin into the pivot plate. Check again to make sure the door is square with the plumb bob. Once you are certain your doors are straight, adjust the lever in the pivot plate to secure your door.
-
Step 7
Hang both sets of doors and screw the floor brackets into place. Make sure to check your doors frequently, to avoid hanging them askew.
-
Step 8
Now you can add your doorknobs. Follow the instructions for the type of knob you have selected. Give your doors a test run!
