Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Final Cut Pro software
  • Computer
  • Audio editing program (i.e., Pro Tools)
  1. Step 1

Export your audio from Final Cut Pro. The first step before you can import audio from Final Cut Pro is to actually get the audio OUT of Final Cut Pro.

  2. Step 2

Select "File - Export" from the main menu in Final Cut Pro.

  3. Step 3

From the Export menu, choose "Audio to OMF." OMF stands for "Open Media Framework." OMF format is great because it will allow you to move your data from one program to another easily for editing while retaining its original positioning in your Final Cut Pro project. Your audio will still be perfectly aligned when you bring it back into Final Cut Pro.

  4. Step 4

    Click "OK."

  5. Step 5

Choose a name for your file. After you click "OK," you must enter a name for your file. Name the file and choose the location on your computer where you would like to store the file.

  6. Step 6

Import your audio into another audio program for editing. Now that you have successfully exported your audio from Final Cut Pro, you are ready to import the audio. Importing your audio is simple. We will use Pro Tools as the audio program in this tutorial.

  7. Step 7

Choose "File - Import" from the main menu in Pro Tools.

  8. Step 8

From the Import menu, choose "Session Data."

  9. Step 9

Select the audio file on your computer that you exported from Final Cut Pro in Steps 1-5.

  10. Step 10

Click "OK." That's it! You now know how to import audio from Final Cut Pro.

Tips & Warnings
  • ALWAYS make backup copies of your project files. Nothing is worse than spending hours on your project, only to have a hard drive crash, wiping out your hours of hard work!
