Sermons are designed to instruct and inspire the listeners. While preparation of a sermon can be difficult, it can be equally tough to pay attention while listening to a sermon. Although life may be busy, it is important to take a break and listen to what the sermon has to offer. It was prepared for your ears for a reason, and you should give it a chance to enhance your spirituality while at church.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Remain respectful. Avoid unnecessary talking or fidgeting during the sermon. Keep disapproving comments or actions to yourself.

  2. Step 2

Read along with the speaker. If reading material has been presented, follow along as instructed. You may not be able to hear well while the sermon is being given. Reading the words will also further enforce the sermon's message.

  3. Step 3

Keep an open mind. Don't disregard the sermon before you have had time to listen to the entire message. The speaker may have valid points even though you have doubts about his love life.

  4. Step 4

Concentrate on the sermon. The sermon should not play second fiddle to thoughts of the night before,or the basketball game you want to watch when the sermon is over. Give the sermon you full attention to receive the most from the message.

  5. Step 5

Take notes for follow up. Write down any questions or comments you may wish to discuss further with the speaker or others.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you lose focus, reflect on the subject of the day until you can again re-focus on the sermon.
  • Don't discourage or hinder other people from listening to the sermon.
