Make Your Own T Shirt

There are a lot of benefits to making your own t-shirt. Some women have a hard time finding a t-shirt that fits them just right. Sometimes you have a shirt that is the right length but too tight or too baggy. When you make your own t-shirt, you can reuse the pattern as many times as you want. This means you can have t-shirts in as many colors as you want, that fit every time.

Things You'll Need

• T-shirt pattern
• Material
• Sewing machine
• Pins
• Scissors
• Tracing wheel
• Dressmakers tracing paper

Instructions

1. Find a t-shirt pattern at your local craft store. Most patterns have more than one design in the package. You also can take apart one of your own t-shirts for a pattern.

2. Trace the pattern. Lay the material on a table or a flat surface. Place the tracing paper on top of it. Pin the paper and material together. Roll the wheel along the pattern lines, and take out the pins when finished. Do this for all pieces of the pattern.

3. Follow instructions. Pin the pieces together as stated in the pattern. Remember to pin everything right side together. If you don't do it this way, you could have to take the stitches out and resew the pieces.

4. Sew together. Carefully sew each of the pieces together until you have a whole, sewn t-shirt. Make sure to take out the pins as you come to them. You could break your sewing needle on one of them.

Tips & Warnings

• After you finish sewing the t-shirt, try it on to make sure it fits like you want it to.

• You can have just a plain t-shirt or you can decorate it. There are iron-ons you can use, design with markers or paints for clothing, or you can add ribbons to it. You also can tie-dye your shirt in colorful splashes. Embroidery or beading makes for interesting decorations.

• Buy extra material in case you mess up and need more material. Read the instructions carefully. Your t-shirt may not come out right if you don't.
