Runes are a system of sacred writings that mythology says appeared to the Norse god Odin. The runes became his gift of knowledge to humanity and are believed to be infused with ancient wisdom. The word rune actually comes from the Middle English word runa which translates to mean “a secret.”Understanding how to read runes is an art unto itself but if you are seriously interested in reading runes you might want to create your own.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Tiles of Wood or Stone
  • Earth colored paint
  • Handsaw
  • Varnish

    How to Create a Rune Set.

  1. Step 1

    Gather ingredients. You will need:Tiles of Wood or StoneEarth colored paintHandsaw Varnish

  2. Step 2

    Sort the tiles. You will need 34 of the same size and general shape. If you decide to use stones it may take awhile to find 34 of the same size and shape.

  3. Step 3

    Choose wood. A great alternative is to find a long branch and using a handsaw cut the branch into 34 discs of same size and shape

  4. Step 4
    Use a Rune Chart to create the runes.

    Paint the runes on the tiles for stone tiles. Using a rune chart paint the 34 runes on the tiles with the earth colored paint.

  5. Step 5

    Use a soldering gun. If you are creating wood disk then carefully burn the runes onto the disk. Seal the disk with varnish.

Tips & Warnings
  • Protect the wood disk with bee’s wax.
