Short sleeve hoodies are very versatile and can update your wardrobe inexpensively. This is a very simple project if you have a sewing machine. If not, you can hand stitch the sleeve hems in about 30 minutes.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 long sleeve hoodie
  • Sharp scissors
  • Sewing machine or needle and thread
  • Iron

Launder the long sleeve hoodie. Make sure the zipper is closed, then hold the hoodie in front of you and fold the sleeves back, so that shoulder seams join together.

  2. Step 2

Align the long sleeves behind the hoodie and mark a cutting line about 4 inches below shoulder with a pin or washable marker.

  3. Step 3

Use sharp scissors to cut on the cutting line on the diagonal, towards the body of the garment. You now have a short sleeved hoodie.

  4. Step 4

Either machine stitch a hem around the unfinished edge of the short sleeve or hand sew a hem stitch around edge.

  5. Step 5

Roll edges up (as in short sleeve hoodie picture) and press with hot iron until the cuff is set.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you quilt or sew, use the leftover sleeve fabric for small projects.
  • Ironing the short sleeve sets the cuff, so the fabric won't unroll.
  • It's best not to skip the hemming step, as this prevents the sleeves from fraying in the wash.
