Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Go to a local discount shop. Marts often have non-leather alternatives because they are generally cheaper than leather. It is here that you really have to read labels, however. Some leather products may be misleading and equally inexpensive. They key is to look for "all man made materials" on the label. Otherwise, you may get animal by-products in the purse.
Step2
Consider making your own purse. You know exactly what materials will be involved, and you can make a purse in any design that suits you the best. Simplicity makes for ease in making, but you can choose anything that you love. Be sure to be realistic about your sewing skills when making your choices. Start simple, and build your way up to fancy designs.
Step3
Call the customer service of companies where you bought your favorite purses from before veganhood. Ask about their vegan choices, and get details on which styles are vegan. This can be a big help when you get to the store. You can even check out some of their websites for such information. Vegan purses are in high demand, and you don't have to go around with a big hemp bag with no design.
Step4
Check out department stores. Again, you want to look for the "all man made materials" label to make sure a product is vegan. While most purses will be labeled as leather, some companies are catching on that leather isn't what everybody wants. Simply because a product doesn't state that it is leather doesn't mean that there is no leather on it. Looking for the label that declares the materials will save you form accidentally contributing to the leather industry.
Step5
Ask around. Other vegans are going to know where to find the best vegan purses for the lowest price.
