How to Tie a Ground Line Hitch

The ground line hitch is a knot used to attach a rope to an object. In the class of knots known as Miller knots, the ground line hitch is more secure than the clover hitch and has less of a tendency to jam.

Things You'll Need:

  • Line
  • Hitch

    How to Tie a Ground Line Hitch

  1. Step 1

    Pull the line over the top of the hitch and wrap it back underneath.

  2. Step 2

    Cross the line over the top of itself.

  3. Step 3

    Pull the line toward the right and back over the top of the hitch. Then, pull back underneath.

  4. Step 4

    Wrap the line around the hitch again, pulling the end through the initial loop.

  5. Step 5

    Pull the end of the line upward as you simultaneously pull the end of the line downward until taught.
