Changing the angle on the base (or fence) of a plate joiner is easy to do. Some models only allow changes in angle to be made in 45 degree increments, while other models allow angles to be set at almost any degree. While I prefer the options that are available with unlimited settings, the truth of the matter is the vast majority of home improvement projects that make use of a plate joiner can be done easily with settings that are a multiple of 45 degrees.

How to Angle the Base of a Plate Joiner

  1. Step 1

Unplug your plate joiner. Safety first!

  2. Step 2

Turn your plate joiner up-side-down and locate the two knobs which loosen the base. There should be one knob on either side of the base. There should be a scale visible which will allow you to set the angle of the base either in some multiple of 45 degrees or which will allow you to set any angle you choose.

  3. Step 3

Loosen both knobs by turning them counterclockwise one or one and a half turns. The base should now swivel.

  4. Step 4

Swivel the base to the angle setting you desire using the scale that is provided. There should be audible "clicks" at each 45 degree angle.

  5. Step 5

Tighten both of the knobs that you previously loosened. Snug them down using only your fingers--do not use any tool to tighten them. You have now successfully adjusted the angle of the base of your plate joiner. Turn your plate joiner right-side-up, plug it in and you are ready to go!

Tips & Warnings
  • Always unplug any tool before making adjustments.
  • Do not over-tighten the base adjusting knobs once you have changed the angle of your base.
