If you are planning a trip via airplane that requires you to take along your young children, there are a few things you can do to make the trip a little easier on all of you!

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Bag of toys and games
  • Any carry-on items necessary for caring for the child
  1. Step 1

Plan ahead well. In your carry-on, pack things that you will need to care for the child while in flight. This includes items like diapers and formula. Remember that food and drink items that are purchased before you clear the security checkpoint are not allowed, unless they are necessary items like baby formula.

  2. Step 2

Pack your child's carry-on bag with some of his favorite toys. Take a few storybooks if you and your child enjoy reading together. If the child is old enough, take some crayons and a coloring book. If you have enough room in your bag, pack a small pillow, blanket and favorite sleeping toy. Make sure you have gum on hand to help the child's ears pop if they are old enough to chew it.

  3. Step 3

Bring all the food and snacks you want onto the plane, as long as they are purchased after you go through the security checkpoint. This won't be so friendly on the wallet, but you should stock up before your flight leaves so that you have plenty of different things to offer your child. Yes, there's generally always some sort of in-flight snack, but it's better to have back-up snack alternatives.

  4. Step 4

Mix and match the toys, games, books, snacks and sleepy stuff to keep the child occupied and stop her from getting bored. Then you are set!

Tips & Warnings
  • If your child is old enough, ask him what he would like to take on the trip. This will help you choose items that he will enjoy and that are appropriate for the plane.
  • Check the TSA website to make sure that all the items you are planning to take in your carry-on are permissible before you arrive at the airport.
