Although toddlers can be adorable, trying to get them to do what you want, or learn something new can be challenging. Dressing oneself at the age of two can be an extremely difficult task. In addition, teaching a toddler to put their clothes on can also be draining. How the clothes are presented to the child, the help you offer, along with positive reinfocement, will assist you in teaching a youngster to add clothes to his or her body.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Make sure that you present all clothing to your child in the correct direction. Nothing should be inside out. This will help avoid any unnecessary complications. Also, only have two or three items out at all times.

  2. Step 2

Have your child start with the piece of clothing that they select. Don't force something that they are not ready for. Patience is required regarding any topic when referring to a toddler.

  3. Step 3

Assist your toddler only when asked. They will let you know when they are frustrated and when they need your help. Don't overstep your boundaries when they are willingly participating.

  4. Step 4

Use positive reinforcement when your child succeeds in putting on any garment. Verbal praise, stickers, and stars all motivate children to want to master tasks.
