Instructions

First make the appropriate measurements for your jump. If it is your first time, start out small and work your way up to the big jump. You need to become comfortable with the position and skill it takes to land a motorcycle after a jump, and how to launch it properly off the ramp.

    • 2

Once you have set up your ramp it is time to concentrate on your approach. You should know how much speed you will need to clear your jump and launch off the ramp into a smooth landing. Be sure to give yourself plenty of room on the approach so you can hit the jump with enough speed, and adjust your speed if necessary.

    • 3

Approach the ramp in a straight line, hitting it head on. Stand on your pegs and get a good footing and keep your body centered and in a slightly compact position with your knees bent.

    • 4

As you hit the ramp, press down on the handlebars to compress your forks, then decompress the forks as you hit the lip of the ramp to give yourself a little extra lift off the ramp. Be sure to maintain complete control the bike at all times and keep it in a straight line.

    • 5

Steady your body over the bike while you are in the air and focus on the landing. Keep your front wheel up as you land on the ground, so your back wheel hits first. Maintain control over the front wheel, and keep it in as straight a line as possible, to avoid a wobble when the front wheel hits the ground.

Tips & Warnings

  • When your front wheel makes contact with the ground, if it is out of alignment with the back wheel, it will cause the bike to shimmy or wobble. Be prepared to draw it back under control if this happens.

  • If you plan to land on a down ramp which is facing the other way, align your bike with the angle of the ramp so it lands flat, by pushing your body forward slightly until the bike is at the same incline as the down ramp.

  • Learning how to jump a motorcycle takes time and practice. Start out small and be sure you are jumping your motorcycle as safely as possible.

  • Always wear a helmet and protective gear like elbow and knee pads, as well as a back pad, for extra safety.

  • Be sure your ramp measurements and calculations for speed are accurate, always double check!

  • Do not over tilt your bike backwards or forwards during your jump. It could result in a crash.
