Positioning the elements of your drum kit for comfort and performance is an important part of getting ready to practice and perform. Let's look a few guidelines for positioning the bass drum in your drum set.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Drum set
  1. Step 1

Set up the individual parts of your drum set, then place the stool in the spot that you want to sit, facing the direction you wish to face. The bass drum will be positioned directly in front of you.

  2. Step 2

Place the bass drum directly in front of the drum stool, with the snare behind it, and the high hat to your left.

  3. Step 3

Move your stool so that when you put your foot on the bass drum pedal your knee is describing a 90-degree angle. While the bass drum's position may vary slightly from that, it should not be much closer or further away, either.

  4. Step 4

Feel free to adjust the position as you play your drum set. Time and experience will teach you the perfect spot for you.
