During the hot summer days it's nice to jump in a pool and cool off after a long day's work. Enjoying the pool is the rather easy part of having a pool. It's choosing a pool that can be more difficult but it's very important to choose the right one. There are many factors that can play into your search so here is a way to choose a pool that is perfect for your family.

From Quick Guide: Swimming Pools 101
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Make the choice. You can choose to have an indoor or an outdoor pool. Knowing which one you want first will make the rest much easier.

  2. Step 2

Know the size. The size of your pool will determine on how much room you have. Depending on where you plan to set the pool, measure the available spot so you can see what size pool will fit in that area.

  3. Step 3

Determine how many people will use it. If there is only two people using a pool, you can usually get by with a fairly smaller sized pool, but if you have a large family or want to use it for parties, get-togethers, etc, then you probably want a larger pool.

  4. Step 4

Determine what kind you want. There are multiple kinds of pools: above-ground (usually the cheapest), fiberglass pools, in-ground pools, gunite pools (one of the more popular designed pools) and poured concrete pools. The resource link below will describe each pool in detail to give you a better idea.

  5. Step 5

Know where to shop. You probably have many local stores that sell pools and it's always great to check locally first. But sometimes you can find a better deal somewhere else. Check the Internet for pool stores closer to your area to see what kind of deals you can find. Be sure to check around multiple places before deciding on one to make sure you get the best value for the price.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you decide to go with a pool that you cannot install yourself, be sure to check the local ordinances for pools. You don't want to end up paying fines for your small mistake!
  • Be sure you know all there is to know about the pool you choose so you are not later faced with problems that you could have avoided.
