Give away your store brand foods and purchase organic groceries. Organic groceries will be properly labeled as such so they are easy to identify.

Find out your serving size. Losing weight is all about portion control. Read the label to find out what one serving size is. Have you ever picked up a bag of pretzels and just munched until you weren't hungry any more? The best thing to do is read the label. Say the pretzel bag says serving size 8 pretzels. Then you would take 8 pretzels out of the bag and put the bag away. You only eat those 8 pretzels. Buy only organic snacks.

Use your dinner plate as a pie chart. Start filling half of your dinner plate with veggies or a salad. Divide the remaining half of a plate in to two sections. That means each section is 1/4 of your plate. 1/4 should be some kind of protein: organic chicken, turkey, beef, etc. The other 1/4 can be your grains: pasta, rice, or potato. If it doesn't fit in that section, don't eat it.

Don't drink your calories. You can drink as much water as you like, but other drinks are only going to take away from the total calories you can take in in one day. I think you mean "when the contestants didn't eat all of their recommended calories for the day, they actually GAINED weight. You have a certain number you SHOULDN'T go under if you want to lose weight.
