A Tae Kwon Do Hook Kick Demo in Process

The Tae Kwon Do hook kick is a great kick because it tricks your opponent. You'll be coming to the outside of your opponent first and then snapping your heel back into your opponent's head. The Tae Kwon do hook kick is, however, one of the more difficult kicks to get down. Just like anything else; it will need practice.

Instructions

    • 1

Begin in fighting/guarding stance with your left foot forward. As with most Tae Kwon Do kicks, you will need to use the power from your back and hips, as well as from the snapping effect you'll be giving the kick.

    • 2

Knee up. The hook kick comes off of your back leg. First, bring your right knee up. Your knee needs to be pointing towards your left, or the outside, right side of your opponent's position.

    • 3

Kick out. Bring your leg up just where your knee is pointing. Remember to keep your guard up and your toes pointing towards yourself.

    • 4

Snap right. Hook your heel to the right, striking your opponent on their right side, usually as high as their head. With the Tae Kwon Do hook kick you are striking your opponent with your heel.

    • 5

End in guarding stance. Bring your foot in back to a knee position, and then down. In Tae Kwon Do you should always begin and end in guarding stance or fighting stance. What you call it is your preference--both terms mean the same thing.
