How to Make Blackberry Ice Cream Sauce

Prepare this sauce when blackberries are in season and serve with vanilla ice cream for a light but flavorful dessert.Save some pretty berries for garnish, and serve alongside with gingersnaps.This can also be made with equal parts strawberries and strawberry jelly.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch
  • pinch salt
  • 1-1/4 cup crushed blackberries
  • 1/3 cup blackberry jelly

    How to Make Blackberry Ice Cream Sauce

  1. Step 1

    In medium size heavy saucepan, combine sugar, cornstarch, and salt and mix well.

  2. Step 2

    Wash blackberries well, drain, and crush in bowl with back of wooden spoon. Add berries and jelly to saucepan.

  3. Step 3

    Cook, stirring constantly, until mixture boils and becomes thick. It should have a clear color.

  4. Step 4

    Set a large bowl in the sink, and place a colander into the bowl. Strain sauce into colander to remove seeds.

  5. Step 5

    Discard seeds, and let sauce cool in bowl. Drizzle over ice cream to serve.

Tips & Warnings
  • If using frozen berries, you can reduce sugar to 1/2 cup.
  • Don't freeze leftover sauce; store in refrigerator for up to several weeks, in a covered container.
