Pasta is a very versatile food and can be served in a never-ending array of ways. Making your own pasta from scratch is both fun and easy. Here are some tips to guide you through the process:

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Unbleached flour
  • ¼ teaspoon onion powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • Ground black pepper (as much as desired)
  • 1 cup chilled water
  • 4 eggs
  • Medium mixing bowl
  • Whisk

    How to Make Pasta

  1. Step 1

Begin by cracking open the 4 eggs and placing them in a mixing bowl.

  2. Step 2

Add in the cup of chilled water, onion powder, garlic powder, salt and pepper.

  3. Step 3

Whisk the mixture until it becomes a buttery color and develops froth, or white foam, on the surface. This will take approximately 3 minutes.

  4. Step 4

Gradually add the flour and stir after each flour addition. There really is no standard amount of flour; keep adding it until the mixture is doughy. Knead the dough by pushing it away from you with the palm of your hand for 30 seconds.

  5. Step 5

Separate the dough into 3 balls of equal or similar size. If you have a pasta machine, run the dough through it one ball at a time. If you are not using a pasta machine, use a rolling pin to flatten the dough until it is approximately 1/16 of an inch thick.

  6. Step 6

If you are using a pasta machine, run the pasta sheets through it to cut. If you are not using one, fold the resulting rectangle in half lengthwise. Use a long, thin knife to carefully cut the pasta into equal strips. Unfold and either hang on a clean rack or leave on a flat surface to dry. You are all finished! Once dry, cook your pasta in boiling water as you normally would.

Tips & Warnings
  • Pasta machines are very handy and inexpensive. They can be purchased at kitchen supply stores.
