There are tons of climbing knots out there, and the double bowline is one that should certainly be in every climber’s arsenal. It has the advantage over the figure 8 knot of being easier to untie, but also comes with a unique set of drawbacks, such as slippage over time and the addition of a stopper knot in order to be truly secure.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Harness
  • Climbing cable
  1. Step 1

Create two loops in the cord and place the smaller of the two inside the larger. Then thread the hole in the harness.

  2. Step 2

Maneuver the rope back through the loops, around the main line.

  3. Step 3

Put it back through the loops.

  4. Step 4

Snake the line back through the gap between the loops and the first time you went through them (refer to picture).

  5. Step 5

Finish with a stopper knot to ensure that there will be no slippage.
