When getting ready to go out on the town it is always a good idea to see if you are properly “decked-out” for the evening. Nothing reveals the truth of this better than a full length mirror.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 30 x 72 inch mirror
  • 1 x 4 inch solid lumber
  • Miter saw
  • Router
  • Over ease bit
  • Carpenter’s level
  • Hammer
  • 6d finish nails
  • Nail set

    Getting Things Ready

  1. Step 1

Over-ease the edges of the lumber with an over-ease bit and a router.

  2. Step 2

Cut a rabbet that measures the thickness of your mirror in all of the 1 x 4 inch solid lumber ¾ inch back from the edge. This allows the mirror to fit behind the frame.

  3. Step 3

Cut two pieces to fit the top and bottom of the mirror and miter them on a 45-degree angle. Be sure that the rabbet-cut comes to the corner of the mirror.

  4. Step 4

Measure and cut the two long pieces of the 1 x 4 inch solid lumber and miter them on a 45-degree angle to match the shorter pieces.

  5. Step 5

Locate the desired place for the mirror. Make sure that there are two studs in the wall behind the desired location to support the weight of the mirror.

  6. Placing it on the Wall

  7. Step 1

Position the bottom of the frame and level it with a carpenter’s level. Attach the frame to the wall with 6d finish nails.

  8. Step 2

Place one of the long pieces against one of the mitered corners of the bottom of the frame and secure it to the wall with 6d finish nails. Use the carpenter’s level to plumb this piece during this process.

  9. Step 3

Position the top of the frame and level it with a carpenter’s level. Attach the frame to the wall with 6d finish nails.

  10. Step 4

Insert mirror into the rabbet-cut and carefully secure the last piece of the frame.

Tips & Warnings
  • Always wear safety glasses.
  • Pre-drill holes for 6d finish nails. This will aid in the securing process.
  • Set all nails with a nail set.
